The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed to cut all federal funding for monitoring beach water quality in 2013. This puts all beach goers at risk of exposure to polluted water.
What does this really mean?
- Several states will be forced to stop all beach water quality monitoring.
- Many beaches will not be inspected as often, or at all.
- National water quality standards may be ignored, and the quality of water will drastically decline.
Do your part to make sure the water we swim and play in is safe. In the past year, there were 24,091 beach closures due to poor quality. If this proposed funding cut goes though, the number of beach closures is sure to increase.
